Doreen's Birthday

A month or so ago, I asked Doreen what she wanted for her birthday, and after some contemplation, she said "a party." Well, I took that as a call to action. Five years ago, I threw Doreen a huge bash for a "power of 10" birthday, and I still consider that to be the best birthday party I've ever attended. But times have changed, the stock market has crashed, and it just didn't seem like that kind of party was in order. So we assembled a list of many of the people from Doreen's several different worlds, and sent out the invitations. Our friend Dolly Rappaport and her husband Mitch agreed to be the night's entertainment, and our friend Dino pitched in with his eponymous restaurant's delicious food. At the last minute, the weather was threatening, and we decided to rent a tent for the backyard. As it turned out, we were blessed with a beautiful evening, and our outside heater did yoeman's duty, making "Cafe Doreen" a special place to be! Kudos to 4/5 of the Grandparents, Brother Laurence and fiancee Katie, ex-Gap friends, CIIS classmates, JDSNP, Brandeis and lifelong friends, and even a new neighbor for making it to the party! We are fortunate beyond our dreams to have such dear, caring and attentive friends and family. |
